OnePlus has kept up with the promise it made in April 2020 to OnePlus 8 series users to provide updates. OnePlus 8 has been updated with 3 major software and 4 years of monthly security updates. OnePlus developer has recently indicated that a new update OxygenOS 13.1.0.587 and the April 2024 security patch are being rolled out in phases.

The major OS update is likely to be the final one but the users will continue to get security patches for the next year, as per the commitment. The company is discontinuing major O/S support for these models. OnePlus has provided consistent software support for these devices, which is crucial for maintaining their performance, security, and usability over time.

Following OnePlus’s usual practice, the update will be rolled out in stages to ensure a seamless experience for all users and to promptly address any significant bugs that may arise. The company intends to extend the update to other countries, with users being notified when the new software becomes available.

Those who prefer to manually check for OxygenOS 13.1.0.587 update can do so by navigating to the Settings menu and accessing the software updates section (Settings -> Device Information -> OxygenOS).

Once the manufacturer’s promised software support period expires, users interested in continuing to use their devices and exploring the latest Android features can resort to modding for further software updates and customization options.
